Jon Wayne and the Pain — Follow Through — CD REVIEW
It seemed like Jon Wayne & the Pain just burst onto the scene only yesterday. Oh wait they did! Not messing about, the mid-west group has just released the aptly titled, Follow Through. JWP went all out on the recording of this album, obviously showing what self-confidence the band has in itself to invest so much into this product. Firstly, the group headed out West and enlisted Lew Richards from 17 St Recording to produce (Dirty Heads, Rome & Slightly Stoopid) and the band also hooked up with some Stoopid people in C-Money, Dela and OG, most prominently featured on the tracks Extended Family and John Wayne’s Body (clever title referencing C-money & Dela’s previous band). OG’s little percussion touches to the track also adds a little more ounce for its bounce. A lot of bands throw the word mature around to describe it latest effort, rarely is it case. But it is what comes to mind when listening to Follow Through, there is a lot more depth here and passion like demonstrated on Vibes and Stone Cold Gold. It is kind of amazing how far the band has come in such a short time. While laidback reggae, akin to Slightly Stoopid is the main sound to Follow Through (seriously, if you like the album Closer to the Sun, you are gonna dig this), the skanking Move Away and the guest vocals of guests like Yoni on Fire will keep you more than interested in what is coming up next. I can’t stress enough has scary it is how quickly JWP has evolved over the past couple of years. I for one am glad they were quick to get Follow Through out! I prescribe you a full dosage. |
