Pacific Dub — To the Sky — CD REVIEW
Pacific Dub ‘s new EP To The Sky is lush, fluid and focused, with undulating, spacious beats and hard driving guitar riffs. The first song is To The Sky, with the uplifting chorus “to the sky I rise” and effortlessly soaring guitar riffs, which give a rising feeling to the whole song. This EP doesn’t stray too far from the sound of their previous releases, the First Drop EP and Fire Eye, but all three of these came out within scarcely more than a year – Pacific Dub has been busy, coming up with new material and playing lots of shows (they’re currently on their first tour, with Iration and Through the Roots). To The Sky is four songs in length – the other three are Lost In You, The One, and Waiting, all songs feature strong dub beats and furious guitar playing. I loved the faster rock moments on this EP, when the guitar really let loose, but also really dug the calmer, dubbier parts. There is some good vocals as well, dynamic singing and upbeat lines like “you teach me how to see the world I love, you are the one,” in The One. To The Sky was one of many albums released on 420 this year, and while there may be no mention of weed on this EP, but it’ll still take you “To The Sky.” By Joseph Fantozzi |
