I'm growing more and more unsure about this. I agree, it's sort of in the general area of gimmick. An excuse for Snoop to smoke more weed than he already does? SURE! The fake accent still has me a little bent. To what you said about Nas and Damian (Damian spell's his name with an a at the end btw), I think this is like apples and oranges. Lyrically speaking you have two rappers doing a reggae type cd, nothing that Snoop has written can lyrically even stand next to anything that Nas has written, I'm not a huge rap fan but I know that Nas is very intelligent, not saying Snoop isn't but I say compare any two songs from either rapper and I'm sure my statement is correct. Nas didn't pretend to be Jamaican, but put his twist on reggae tracks, just as Damian put a reggae/dancehall twist on hip hop tracks. What snoop is doing I think is completely different. There are also a lot of Jamaican's and Rasta's that are in no way backing this (Sizzla being the most out spoken so far)....well except for the Marley's because well if it can be sold, they are selling it!

I agree, Distant Relatives is a far cry from this. Snoop said there will be no rapping on this album, distant relatives had damian singing while nas rapped on the tracks. And being a huge hiphop fan myself, I can say that Bombora was exactly right in sayiing that Nas is vastly superior to snoop lyrically.

The Rasta Elders seem to be cool with it. That's good enough for me.

Anyone here this. It would be much better without snoop. he can't sing but tries to a lot and his jafaican accent is comical. funny, the two tracks with him alone are terrible, but some of the other tracks are decent. pm if you want to check it out.

Yeah pretty much heard the whole thing. Major lazer is the winner here. I do prefer this over the new major lazer release as that's simply to much club/dance. Snoop's delivery isn'twhat it use to be. Even clumsy at points. Although I did enjoy hearing him deliver some smooth highs. Been a while since i listened to a snoop album. I was disappointed with his guests. I thought he could pull more weight. Overall not great but worth a listen.

I just can't think if ss tour had any influence. Ha.

I'm curious to check out the documentary about the making of the album.

7 months is a plenty of time to burn your bridges...Is it worth checking out, seriously?

For me the idea of snoop doing reggae was enough for me to say 'check out'. I'm pretty open to anything at least once. I'm a fan of "reggae" new and old. So I'm also interested in seeing what reggae has potential of mainstream exposure. I do have mixed opinions about music going pop but that's a different discussion. Right now I'm off the belief that id rather scan through the radio and catch a song with a reggae beat than not.I see this as a means of advertising reggae, but, again hopefully it doesn't do more harm and add more stereotypes to the discussion. Snoop was on bill maher and it added nothing positive to the genre.

So now that the album is out, what are your opinions? Personally, I've been digging it. There are a few songs that I could do without, but there are also some that I can put on and enjoy. I try to picture it as "If I had no idea this was Snoop Dogg and heard this song, what would I think?" and try to form an unbiased opinion. In doing so, I've found myself playing the album in my car more than I initially thought I would.
