The Pier’s Weekend Show Locator!

The entire Pier Family hopes you had a great Thanksgiving! Now it is time to get over that turkey hangover and head out for some great shows around the country and overseas. Even though many artists are nursing their Thanksgiving hangover with the weekend off, the Pier’s Weekend Show Locator takes you out for the next three days with John Butler Trio, The Green, Passafire, Pepper, and many more.

One Love A Tribute To Bob MarleyNew Yorkers, I hope you are ready! The Wailers play two shows this weekend at the iconic Apollo Theatre in Harlem, both performances on Saturday night. This is a very special performance that should not be missed.

Bob Marley at The Apollo 1979The Wailers continue their tour, One Love: A Tribute To Bob Marley, to celebrate the 30 year anniversary of the album Legend (read the full write up by The Pier HERE). The band will perform Legend in its entirety with reggae ambassadors Third World and British reggae artist Maxi Priest joining the lineup, along with a special guest appearance by KY-MANI MARLEY, the second youngest of Bob Marley’s eleven children. There are two identical shows happening; the first will kickoff at 8pm with an encore performance at 11pm.

If that’s not enough reason to grab your ticket, the shows Saturday night will also be commemorating the 35th anniversary of Bob Marley’s first appearance at The Apollo Theatre. Bob Marley’s legendary debut at The Apollo took place 35 years ago last month in October of 1979. Not only was this Bob Marley’s first time at The Apollo, but it occurred at a time when the industry thought that “reggae won’t sell to the American Black community” and doubters thought “white people won’t come to Harlem” (see the full article here). Despite this adversity, all seven shows over the four nights at the Apollo sold out and reggae was brought to Harlem live by Bob Marley for the first time.

Check out rare photos and download audio recordings from the 1979 Bob Marley performances at The Apollo HERE!

Remember to come by here every single Friday to see what shows are going on for the entire weekend. You may also view our built-in Show Locator, where you can search by artist & view all of their upcoming shows, with options to purchase tickets for select shows!
