June is the beginning of summer! Time to put away those schoolbooks, ask for those vacation days off, and crank up the tunes in honor of sun shining days and long summer nights. Nothing kicks off the season like spending the night at a show or weekends at festivals. The Show Locator is loaded with reggae shows featuring our favorite bands and artists that we rock out to in our cars and MP3s all week long.
Baltimore, MD band, Fiction 20 Down is swinging into the hip Denver scene this Friday night. With a booming reggae-rock community, Denver is home to the famous MoBoogie Loft where Fiction 20 Down will start the night. With a 4:00pm scheduled show at the Loft, F20D is going to be rockin’ the Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom and The Other Side for a dual venue event later Friday evening. Fiction 20 Down will also be stopping in Pueblo, Colorado Saturday night before going to the Midwest next week! Don’t miss out Colorado reggae-rockers!
After a weekend spent in the trees of Monterey for the California Roots Festival, California reggae is moving south for the weekend to catch one of our favorites: Rebelution! With the success of their latest album Peace of Mind and the multitude of sold out shows they have put on in 2012 alone, Rebelution is here just in time for summer! With all the positive energy and songs we know all the words to, Rebelution will be playing a solo show at the Hollywood Park in Inglewood Friday night. Continuing the weekend in Chula Vista at Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre, X-Fest is hosting top tier Rebelution at a 5:25pm set time. Time to put that Rebelution playlist on blast before the show!
As fans in the reggae-rock community, we all know that our favorite tunes and bands are not necessarily found outside of our cozy little subculture. But the love and positivity that streams from reggae music is hard not to notice. Festivals like Coachella Valley Music and Arts, Lollapalooza, and Bonnaroo are including reggae-rock artists in their incredible lineups. Wakarusa Festival held in the mountains of Ozark, Arkansas, will be hosting a weekend full of reggae-rock stars! Slightly Stoopid, SOJA, Matisyahu, Iration, Orgone, G. Love & Special Sauce, and Tribal Seeds will all be representing reggae-rock this weekend! So keep posted with The Pier on where you can catch reggae-rock at awesome festivals.
Live music has this essence that lingers on long after the music stops. So catch those positive vibes, irie tunes, and great memories with friends this weekend at a show (or festival!) that you just can’t miss!
