It doesn’t feel like a Record Store Day celebration without Sublime’s inclusion. Such will be the case for Black Friday Record Store Day taking place Friday, Nov 24th, 2017 when Sublime releases a limited edition Picture Disc, exclusive to participating record stores.
Record Store Day typically takes place the third or fourth Saturday of April, but they have now joined the Black Friday party and rightfully so as Record Stores are gems for rare finds and new discoveries. For Record Store Day releases, major bands and artists have displayed their support for the brick and mortar stores by offering an exclusive release that requires you to get your ass up and out to the record store.
For the Black Friday special, and as part of Sublime’s continued 25th Anniversary of their debut album 40oz to Freedom, Sublime has decided to release a Double-LP Limited Edition Picture Disc. One Disc includes the classic 40oz to Freedom Sun, while the other is a photo taken by photographer Josh Coffman during the video shoot for Sublime’s first hit single, “Date Rape.”.
This is will be the second Record Store Day release for Sublime. This past April they did a first ever Vinyl Release of their Badfish EP. Last year, Sublime participated by reissuing their original Skunk Records album, Jah Won’t Pay The Bills, on vinyl for the first time. This was a cassette-only release 25 years ago sold out of the trunk of their cars before they got signed. It was re-mastered from the original analog tapes with Brian “Big Bass” Gardner and was also reissued on cassette tape. In addition, 420 limited edition Green Cassettes and 420 limited edition Green Vinyl were made available at random.

If you’re reading this and you plan to treat this Record Store Day as a priority to get your hands on this Double-LP Limited Edition Picture Disc, then I would suggest waking up early on Nov 24th to get your ass down to your local Record Store and wait in line to be sure you have an opportunity to pick this up. It wont be made available online, unless it’s on Ebay after they’re sold out, and outrageously marked up.
