Slightly Stoopid’s Album Info & Release Date!

The news continues to filter in regarding the upcoming Slightly Stoopid album titled, Top Of The World. Last week, The Pier received word that Top Of The World will be released in August. Today, it has been confirmed that fans will have an exact date to anxiously await the latest musical masterpiece from the band known simply as Slightly Stoopid.

On August 14th, 2012, Slightly Stoopid’s seventh studio album Top Of The World will be available on all platforms through the band’s own Stoopid Records. There is no question that fans will be anticipating this date for numerous reasons. With Slightly Stoopid’s varying style and crossing over countless genres, this release might be the hottest release of the summer, albeit over three-and-a-half-years since their previous studio album.

Yet, the good news continues on. The Pier has also speculated that heavyweights in the reggae field would be present on this album, and we are here to confirm that Barrington Levy and Don Carlos of Black Uhuru will be featured on “Ur Love” and “Marijuana,” respectively.

Furthermore, longtime friend of Slightly Stoopid and touring mate G. Love, from G. Love and The Special Sauce will also be featured on a blues track, appropriately titled, “G Man Blues,” as well as Fishbone frontman Angelo Moore appearing on the album track “Ska Diddy”. But, that is not all. Former Jurassic Five legendary emcee Chali 2na drops a verse down on the track called, “Just Thinkin,” along with Dumpstaphunk’s Ian Neville and Slightly Stoopid’s “unofficial 8th band member,” Karl Denson of the Greyboy Allstars and Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe supplying their musical talents throughout the entire album.

Top Of The World will feature 21-tracks, which goes far beyond a high-profile collaborative effort amongst musical comrades. The album displays Slightly Stoopid’s unparalleled ability to mix and match different genres and musical styles without losing sight of the true emblem and sound of each genre they hit. The hip-hop beats are present, melded with hypnotic guitar lines and catchy vocal hooks, while previous Acoustic Roots: Live and Direct gem, “Devil’s Door” has transformed into a smooth blast of dubbed-out funk accented by Slightly Stoopid’s tight horn section featuring C-Money, Dela and Karl Denson, coupled with none other than a psychedelic guitar solo.

Previously unreleased, yet familiar to Ese Locos, “Serious Man” will also be featured on the album, highlighting the classic Jamaican sounds of the ‘70s and ‘80s, and “Underneath The Pressure” rides along a lively ska rhythm that bursts out of the stereo at a dynamic tempo. Those are just some of the treats Slightly Stoopid has in store among the 21-tracks coming your way August 14th!

With a band that now has made their imprint on three decades, the growth fans can expect from Top Of The World, is literally that exact entity. Slightly Stoopid has formed their craft from students of Skunk Records to Professor’s of the new age of reggae music. As a band, they started as a three-piece, later solidifying their quartet with Ryan “RyMo” Moran on drums and Oguer “OG” Ocun on percussions, and recently fulfilling their sound with horns and keys with C-Money (Trumpet), Dela (Saxophone) and Paul Wolstencroft (Keyboards), as well as being accompanied by plenty of friends who often times act as additional band mates, such as Ian and Ivan Neville of Dumpstaphunk and the aforementioned Karl Denson.

Needless to say, get your calendars out and circle the date: August 14th, 2012. Slightly Stoopid is prepared to take their music and their fan base to the Top Of The World with their latest edition to the Stoopid Records catalog!
