“Citrus Skies” Background:
While working on their first album, Tunnel Vision caught the attention of Slightly Stoopid’s Miles Doughty, Kyle McDonald, and Dela, and were invited to record their debut album at Slightly Stoopid’s studio “The Lab” in San Diego, CA. Taking influence from bands such as Sublime, Mad Caddies, NOFX, Slightly Stoopid, and Rancid, Tunnel Vision teamed with Grammy winning producer James Wisner to bring their infectious sound to the forefront of the scene. Their debut 15 track album also features guest appearances by Angela Hunte.
The song featuring Angela Hunte is titled “Citrus Skies”, here’s what Tunnel Vision’s front-man Hayden Hanson had to say regarding the song and collaboration:
“I wrote citrus skies after countless times at the beach during sunset in Southern California. I was really just trying to portray the picture of our home’s colorful scenery into a song. But I think it goes deeper than that and can relate to anyone in the world. It’s more about just kicking back and relaxing and soaking in the greatness of this world.”
Hayden continues on explaining: “Angela Hunte came into the song as actually a surprise to me from our producer (and Angela’s husband) James wisner. But loved it as soon as I heard it. And I think it accompanied the song perfectly. In all, the song came out just the way I wanted it to! Everyone put just the right amount of touch to it to give it our own Tunnel Vision sound. And then we added Dela and Andy of Slightly Stoopid into the mix and they put the perfect horn line to accompany the riff and chorus. The crazy part about the song is that it wasn’t even gonna be on the Album. Tom Maxwell of Whiskey Barrel Record heard me playing ‘Citrus Skies’ on the couch in the studio he said that has to be on the Album and here it is. ‘Citrus Skies’ is there for anyone when they need it. So sit back crack a beer and watch the sunset and enjoy your own citrus sky.”
A song that was originally going to be cut from the album now opens it up at track 1 and was the subject of a well endorsed Album Review courtesy of The Pier’s own Andrew Aroche that you can read HERE!
