The Holdup -Still Gold

You can download the song One More Day for FREE on our home page under the MP3 Leak of the Week on the right hand column! This Download will only be available until Saturday April 30th

Here’s what The Holdup told The Pier about the song:
“There’s a lot of things that have bothered us about this music scene for a while. This song was just a completely honest way to talk about it. The intention is not to upset anyone, though it may, just to at least get some things off our chests. We have nothing but love for reggae but the reactions we get from reggae lovers when we don’t play it has left us with a sour taste. It’s upsetting to us that a simple reason as “your songs don’t all sound reggae” has driven bands to not only despise us, but bad mouth us in a professional environment. That’s something we never do. We encourage and respect diversity. We don’t expect this song to change anyone’s mind. We just want people to see it from our point of view.”
-The Holdup

Formed in the fall of 2006 out of San Jose, CA, The Holdup creates a new style by blending multi genre influenced production into each song. From Hip Hop, Reggae, Dub, Soul, Pop and Rock, you find each song different from the next with its own unique sound. Combine a distinctive combination of music with ear catching melodic lyrics, and you get The Holdup: An energetic, hardworking group that defines a new unique style of Music.

You tell em fella’s, your songs don’t have to all sound reggae, I hate the entire oh one genre tid bit B.S. I love metal music and hard rock music, so does that mean I can’t like Mr. Bob Marley’s music etc etc… It all goes back to two of my all time favorite bands Sublime, and 311 which have been argued as not all sounding reggae, with punk rock and funk rock all thrown in the mix etc… I love the band Soulfly, and they put reggae in thier metal music, and they are straight up hard-core metal hahaha.I look at it all as DUB, and I know what the word DUB means and it’s traditional meaning, but I find it to be a mix of almost everything. I say Fxxx it and throw some country in your next album if it makes you happy, who cares!!!!! It’s you music and what inspires you to make what you make, and keep doing it!!!! I admire that you guys are brave enough to get up on stage and play your asses off and put out what you put out. More power to ya, and in the Reggae/Rock scene I thought that’s what it’s about, so forget the ney sayers. My girlfriend introduced me to you guys and I bought both of your albums, as what you guys call through the old skool way haha the physical copies and I was pretty impressed with them both. I read on here an article the Pier has about the upcoming Beastie Boys album, now if they are considered straight reggae then peoiple don’t know the difference of music genres. Peace out and again thank you to ThePIER.ORG for all of the free music as usual and helping musicians such as myself, by giving the chance to have the music heard!! ONE LOVE Peeps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was fine with them not playing reggae. Pretty negative song. Can’t really call myself a man anymore.

    3. GHost says:

Hell Yeah! The white boy Reggae scene is a hilarious joke! Thank you for saying it :)

    4. SBanks says:

I think Aaron ^ meant he can’t call himself a *fan anymore; but if you don’t wanna be a man either that’s okay. Good song. Great lyrics.

    5. Aaron says:
