While “Every Little Thing” is set to be released August 5th, The Pier has the exclusive give away for this week only. This is the first tease at what to expect from their forthcoming new record Chapter 2, set for a January 2017 release.

“I wrote Every Little Thing about the ‘Honeymoon Phase’ of a relationship,” says guitarist Mike Mancuso, the band’s principal songwriter. “Sometimes when you’re single, you’ve had a bunch of failed short-term relationships, you start to get down and think you’ll never find someone right for you. The song is about the feeling you get in a new relationship and everything little thing about them feels right.”

When describing their music, Mancuso explains “I never know what to say when people ask me what kind of music we play. We play six distinct styles that I can name off the top of my head, with influences of others, too. I generally call it ‘upbeat music’ and let listeners decide how they want to categorize it.”

I’d say ‘upbeat music’ is a great way of putting it, but emphasized with a fun horn section, percussion, rock & roll guitars and a funky bassline. I’d recommend it after your first coffee in the morning on the way to work with its upbeat swing that should influence a great attitude for the ensuing minutes following it’s performance.

“Our first album was heavier in reggae and ska,” says Mancuso, thinking back on the band’s beginnings and musical evolution. “The new album will feature more funk and rock. We’re pushing into new genres but not losing sight of where we came from.”

Steady Legend

Steady Legend Background:

Steady Legend was founded by multi-instrumentalist Michael Mancuso. Originally from North Carolina, Mancuso began as a trombone player, touring around the Southeast with various acts. He attended the University of North Carolina at Asheville studying music, where he picked up bass, guitar, drums, and keys. After graduation, he moved to Austin to create a band that could perform a diverse mix of styles, blended together into a fun, dance-friendly show. In Spring 2011, he met singer Debora Otero through a chance Craigslist ad and the band was formed.

“When I met Deb, we started out with an acoustic guitar and a few lyrics scribbled down in a notebook,” says Mancuso. “She responded to a Craigslist ad I posted searching for horn players. I had some horn arrangements I wanted to turn into songs to start an instrumental group, but that all changed when I met Deb. We sang together effortlessly, which made songwriting easy. All we want to do is write cool songs, make people dance and, most of all, have fun.”

“Deb Love” is originally from California and brings a style reminiscent of No Doubt vocalist Gwen Stefani. Blending the sounds of reggae to rock, ska to soul, swing to funk, and pairing it all with a three piece horn section, their upbeat sound gets people on their feet. The self-titled debut album released in March 2015 takes listeners on a journey through melodic horn features, chant choruses, guitar solos, catchy vocal riffs, and everything in between. Other band members include Omar Avitia on drums and Dan Millican on bass, with a rotating cast of talented horn players filling out the lineup.
