SOWFLO’s “Shot Him Down” Background:
SOWFLO is a reggae-rock band from Southwest, FL, hence their name SOWFLO, and after releasing 2 EP’s with 2010’s self-titled followed by Rising in 2013, the group is ready to drop their first full length record, Such Is Life on June 30th, 2016. The album includes 10 total tracks that was recorded and mixed at The Hit Factory Criteria and Studio Center in Miami, FL. From there, they had the record mixed by 5 time Grammy winner Marc Lee with mastering done by Chris Athens.
If the cover-art to SOWFLO’s album looks like Sublime with Rome’s Sirens, it’s because SOWFLO tapped surf-art legend, Drew Brophy, to design their cover, using similar colors and visuals as seen on Brophy’s work with SwR.
Such Is Life was 100% self-funded, produced and published by the group which caught our attention to see a young hardworking group pave their own way, while also proudly wearing the flag of their influences on their sleeve as heard with their music.
1 of the 10 songs on their new album is “If You’re Lost,” which you can find the official music video to below. But another song from the record is “Shot Him Down,” and that happens to be the song we’re giving away for the week.
Guitarist/Vocalist, Jacob Dorris, provides a little insight to the background of “Shot Him Down,” telling The Pier: “The lyrics in this song read like a letter left behind for the girl I love. I tell her that I know she’s vexed but she doesn’t need to be scared anymore because I shot down her abusive old man. She didn’t ask me to do so, but I did it anyway. The only thing I would never do for her, is let him get away with it.”

SOWFLO Background:
SOWFLO, an acronym for (So)uth (W)est (Flo)rida, from the “Paradise Coast” Naples, FL is a refreshing new take on contemporary Reggae music. With a distinct acoustic surf-rock/reggae sound, SOWFLO sings a song of light-hearted melodies, whole-hearted lyrics and good vibrations. “We don’t make music, we create movement,” is the groups slogan as represented by (guitarist/vocalist) Jacob Dorris, (bassist/vocalist) Christian Yacono, (lead-guitarist) Daniel Sahin, (trombone/vocalist) Nick Grim, and (drummer) Wes Mitzelfeld.
After 2 EP releases and multiple self-booked national tours, SOWFLO have built themselves an evolving fan base, building momentum beyond their native shores of Naples, Florida.
Their Such Is Life summer tour will be SOWFLO’s 5th national tour, spanning from the Midwest to the East Coast. The tour will take place from June 30th to August 27th reaching 11 different East Coast & Midwest states inside of 25 different cities, all of which will be followed by a West Coast tour in the fall.
