Ooklah The Moc’s “Rocket Crucial” Background:

Every Posse EP was produced by Ooklah’s bass and drum duo in Ryan “Jah Gumby” Murakami and John Davis. The EP was recorded at multiple studios on Oahu including, Studio Ala Moana, Soul Sound, Sea Major Seven and Father Psalms Studio.

When discussing new song “Rocket Crucial” drummer John Davis tells The Pier: “The tune’s about day to day living in Hawaii; The things we do to get by, coupled with the necessity of life enjoyment. It’s an expensive place to live and the stress of making ends meet should to be greeted with some kind of relief. What better place than in the dance? Hawaii is extremely diverse. There are so many different styles of music, people and expression in general; the lyric ‘Every Posse’ recognizes that. We wanted to give thanks and respect to the many walks of life that come to shows and wind their waist to our music.”

The album has hard hitting reggae rhythms with smooth harmonies over a signature Hawaiian sound. They’re melodic, soulful and at 9-piece ensemble, you’re getting a full live sound with each track on the new EP. You can purchase Ooklah The Moc’s Every Posse by clicking HERE!

Ooklah The Moc Background:

Hailing from Palolo Valley on the island of Oahu in Hawaii, Ooklah the Moc is a 9-piece ensemble that includes: Ryan Murakami – Bass. John Davis – Drums. Asher Philippart – Guitar. Kali Navales – Vocals. Micky Huihui – Vocals. Pokii Seto – Vocals. Robert Daguio – Keys. Mike Cueva – Sax. Bernie Soriano – Trumpet.

Ooklah the Moc has been playing original modern roots reggae for two decades. As early trailblazers of the modern roots movement, Ooklah the Moc emphasizes their global message through heavyweight, rub-a-dub arrangements reminiscent of the early Jamaican and U.K. pioneers of the roots reggae and dub genres. Live horns and energetic vocals coupled with 20+ years of touring and producing records make the Palolo roots-rockers a guaranteed crowd pleaser.

The story of Ooklah the Moc starts in the hardcore scene. As teenagers, Ryan Murakami (bass), Asher Philippart (guitar), and John Davis (drums) started their musical adventure composing tracks heavily influenced by the NYC hardcore scene. By a serendipitous twist of fate, the trio was asked to work out a handful of reggae covers for a friend’s house party, and so began the intimate love affair with roots reggae and dub that quickly became the defining sound of Ooklah.

All of these years of playing has brought a large array of opportunity to the band. Having played sets at numerous festivals including Sierra Nevada World Music Festival, Cali Roots festival, as well as having appeared with reggae titans Aswad, Alpha Blondy, and Damian, Stephen and Ziggy Marley, not to mention modern roots favorites John Brown’s Body, Groundation and Katchafire, Ooklah the Moc is no stranger to the international reggae scene.
