Prior to this week, we had never heard of Mikey Pauker so he’s just as new to us as of this publish as you may be reading this for the first time. He’s a folk-artist who grew up in Orange County, CA but is currently based out of Oakland-Berkley of Northern, CA. It was while living in Orange County that he was first exposed to live music, feeding off the energy from live-shows. As the press release reads, Pauker was inspired by teachers who blended yoga and mystical practices as he went to study in Jerusalem, soaking up the hidden teachings of his ancestral lineage. It’s Mikey’s intent through song to enable us to be conscious of all things, light and dark, and finding the peace between the two as felt with his new song “Say Yes.”
Mikey’s sound blends elements of folk, reggae, and hip-hop, incorporating English and Hebrew roots into his devotional songwriting. Mikey’s music draws from influences such as early Bob Marley, Van Morrison, and The Police, and listeners may identify his style as that of Michael Franti, Trevor Hall and Nahko & Medicine For The People.
He has a new record titled Ascension that is set to drop on Jan 26th, 2018. It was said to be recorded in raw, live instrumental sessions — a departure from Mikey’s more electronic past recordings. Mikey worked with producer Warren Huart on whose worked in the past with Trevor Hall & Matisyahu.
