“Come Undone” Background:
Together Not Apart includes 12 total tracks & was recorded, produced & mixed by vocalist Dean Forrest, at Cube Recordings. The album includes a fresh and acoustic feel through the presence of classic microphone techniques and analogue outboard equipment. Additional recording took place with Bob Williams at Analogue Systems using their modular synthesizers, sought after by bands such as Radiohead & Kaiser Chiefs.

There’s an eclectic mix of genres displayed all over Together Not Apart. The band pays homage to 70s/80s funk with tons of big vocal harmonies, pumping dub beats, intricate horns, ambient synths coupled with their penchant for organic, fresh reggae and 2-tone. The band describes the album as a platform to project their unifying message of change, challenge & hope.

As for the song “Come Undone”, the group tells The Pier that: “Come Undone’ emphasises the shared responsibility in society, showcasing the group’s penchant for crafting culturally informed lyrics.”

The album title, Together Not Apart, pays tribute to Backbeat Soundsystem’s fans that made their third studio album possible by tripling the initial target for the project on Kickstarter.

BackBeat SoundSystem Background:
Backbeat Soundsystem formed in late 2008 out of the ashes of some recently broken up bands. The band’s members wanted to do something more uplifting, funkier, and more danceable, and the results were instantly well received. Within a year the band started playing festivals and toured with the Easy Star All-Stars in 2010, which helped forge the working relationship between the band and the label.

8-piece funk reggae outfit Backbeat SoundSystem, formed in the charming Cornish idyll of St Austell & has been smashing up stages all across the UK. This is original music, groovy and affecting. Over their two debut EPs, the band have honed a bass-led party sound that is as infectious as it is sonically interesting.

On record, they use the full potential of the studio to craft a highly dynamic approach to recording, spacious multi-tracking and arrangements making the best of the format- but live, they are a different beast. The ‘serious pop’ songs’ inherent strengths come to the fore and explode in a haze of onstage energy and pumping rhythm.

BackBeat has shared bills across the country with the likes of Cypress Hill, Easy Star All-Stars, Plan B, Tinie Tempah and Dub Pistols.
