The 6 member hip-hop tribe known as Jurassic 5 are back and returning to the road this summer for their Word Of Mouth Reunion Tour sharing the road alongside Dialted Peoples, Beat Junkies and MC Supernatural. The Los Angeles, CA based hip hop group will be celebrating their reunion after 6-7 year hiatus.
After a positive response at last year’s Coachella, the group’s six original members – Akil, Zaakir, Marc 7, DJ Nu-Mark, Chali 2na, and Cut Chemist – are set to cross the country on this very special jaunt. The tour kicks off July 7 at Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, NV and will end August 3rd at the House of Blues in Boston, MA. In between those dates are 20 total shows to celebrate the 20 year reunion of the band.
“Just to be able to do this reunion is really special,” said DJ Ni-Mark in a recent interview with Moshcam. “They always say that you only get one chance at this business and we’re so lucky to get another chance to playing in front of people that have supported us is just…we feel very thankful for that.”
Following the Coachella reunion, these six rap luminaries embarked on a yearlong string of sold-out concerts and festivals in Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. In addition to the tour, J5’s renaissance continues with the release of a full-length documentary feature later this year.
As for the Word of Mouth Reunion Tour, it’ll include the group performing a an intimate set of classics from their back catalog that dates back to their first EP release in 1998. Two years later, they dropped their full length album, Quality Control. In 2002, Chali 2na was featured on the Long Beach Dub All Stars Wonders of the World album, with vocals on the song “Life Goes On”. In 2006, the group released the album, Feedback via Interscope & saw the group reach #15 on the Billboard Top 200 during it’s release before amicably separating the following year.
Currently the band is touring internationally through Europe and will be back Jun 29th for a short breather before their July 9th Summer tour commences – check the full schedule of dates…
