Fortunate Youth’s Submission for a Grammy!

Fortunate Youth’s Submission for a Grammy!

After a long list of great albums that have arisen in 2013, our good friends from Los Angeles’ South Bay, Fortunate Youth, have recently submitted their nomination for a Grammy Award! They’re May release of It’s All a Jam is up against 50 other album submissions in the category for best reggae album of 2013.

On November 11, the boys will find out if they are one of five finalists to have a chance to receive the award in January.

First of all, on behalf of everyone at The Pier, I would like to say congratulations to Fortunate Youth, as well as all of the bands that were nominated for the award. Some of the other albums included in the nominations were:

  • Snoop LionReincarnated
  • Ziggy MarleyZiggy Marley In Concert
  • Musiq SoulChild & Syleena Johnson9ine
  • I know how hard they work and its great to see them get recognized for their talents. When asked about their nomination, lead singer Dan Kelly acknowledged “I feel extremely honored to even be considered for a Grammy nomination. It’s very surreal.”

Whats surreal is that this is the first for any local South Bay band including the likes of Pennywise, Black Flag and others from the South Bay region to be recognized & nominated by the Grammys.

It’s All a Jam is the band’s second full-length album, but their first to reach #1 on both the Billboard and iTunes Reggae Charts. What’s amazing about Fortunate Youth, is that these guys have only been together for a short four years, yet they have created some unbelievable music, that is getting recognized every time they release something new.

“It creates a drive…a lot of people feel they can’t get out of the South Bay bubble and that’s what Fortunate Youth did in the beginning. They broke those barriers, they’ve done extremely good things in the short time they’ve been a band,” said manager Jared Segawa.

At The Pier, we are big fans of FY and in May we were big fans of the their latest album, which we gave a 4/5 star review that you can check out by clicking HERE!

Once again, congrats to Fortunate Youth, for this amazing award, and good luck for the pool of five in November!
