Hula Skirt, a fresh band from Southern California, has just released their debut full-length album! The self-titled album features 13-songs, written, produced and mixed by founder and lead vocalist, as well as guitarist, Zane Fischer. The album showcases the band’s California sunny blend of reggae-rock with mellow pop, acoustic jams in between.
With Hula Skirt forming in 2011 with the solidification of drum chameleon, Kevin Offitzer, who has performed for such touring acts as Outlaw Nation, Micah Brown, Kat and is currently on tour behind the beat with Stick Figure, the duo spent the summer of ’11 in the studio recording their breakout EP, meaningfully titled “Set You Free,” followed by their “In The Reef EP.” For the compilation of the new album the band used several of the tracks that were previously released on the EPs. Hula Skirt’s self-titled album was recorded over the course of a year in a project studio in Los Angeles, CA, and the drums for several songs were tracked at the famous 17th Street Recording Studio in Costa Mesa, CA during the summer of 2012.
When asked about the album, Zane explained to The Pier, “We’re stoked to release our first full-length album. I hope people enjoy the variety of sounds on this record. Some songs are more rootsy, while others have a pop/reggae vibe. Then there’s tracks like “Turn It Around”, which have a heavier sound. Lyrically inspired by powering through life’s roadblocks while keeping a positive outlook.”
