420 Show - Chapter 11 and Bredrin Daddys Review

There was much anticipation for this 420 show to be held at the House of Blues in Anaheim CA, that was until some big-wigs at Disney brought that to a screaming halt. All because of the 4-20 date and its association with pot smokers. Disney wanted no part of that. Personally, I thought this was pretty funny, as I have been to a great deal of shows there and one even comes to mind where a few years ago the Long Beach Dub All Stars played it and there was certainly a great deal of pot smoking going on then. Nonetheless Disney at this time wanted no part in this event on this date.

So what came about next was a lot confusion, disappointment and some very angry ticket holders. I heard from one of The Bredrin Daddys MCs that patrons were showing up at the HOB because they were not even aware of the venue change and were being pushed over to the Vault 350 in Long Beach.

Naturally, they didn’t want to have to drive to Long Beach and have to deal with the fact that some of the streets had been closed due to the Long Beach Grand Prix that had been held that weekend. I myself was looking forward to making it to the show even though it was further than I wanted to drive on a Sunday night. Even still I made the 70 plus mile drive to the Vault 350, paid the $8.oo to park and a whopping $18.50 for a ticket to get in on top of the $50.00 dollars I had to put into the gas tank to get out there. Needless to say it was an expensive night for me.

I arrived at the venue about 9pm and I had already missed Inhale (sorry guys). I didn’t realize the show was starting so early. I grabbed a water at the bar and chilled for an hour just holding up a pillar not knowing my Sense Boardwear famillia was there chilling by the merch counter. When I finally realized it was so nice to see Daddy Scotty of Chapter 11, Sara of Universal Speakers and then my Sense Boardwear Family!

We chilled there and talked as Lifeline played their set just anticipating our friends the Bredrin Daddys to take the stage. The Long Beach reggae/hardcore crew started off with a medley of originals that got the crowd ready to rock into what was to become a mosh-pit frenzy. The BD’s as always put on an amazing show and its set was awesome to say the least.

As it was a CD release show for the Daddy’s the band played a few new songs including a track called About You, which was a surprising mellow chilled down song performed by one rockin’ band. The song was amazing and the crowd seemed to love it as much as I did too. As the BDs jammed on they were Cool and Calm and they welcomed people to Come to Long Beach to React and Respond to The Sign of when the Girls Get Naughty. That was just to name a few of the songs they flew through. The BD's finished up the night with one final song off of its new album and I totally recommend every fan and every newby to the band to purchase this new album soon.

Next up was 420 headliners Chapter 11, there was much anticipation in the air and even though the crowd was light because of the changes made to the venue plans, the bands still killed it on the stage that night. Chapter 11 never ceases to amaze me, as these guys really know how to bring the house down. Rocking out to some new songs and thankfully still jamming some of their older tunes which made Chapter 11 what they are today.

Chapter 11 is a band that sticks to there Roots and Culture, a band that is always Rockin It, a band that warns us about those Counterfeit Girls and Raggamuffin Girlfriends, while some Burn Tonight in the West Coast Cali because sometimes it is the Same O, Same O in the LBC (Ed note: Haha good one Rick).

Overall, it was an awesome night of good tunes, new and old, and a great deal of high energy from both the Bredrin Daddys and Chapter 11. Thank you to both bands for another sick night of great music, every venue you play together is always worth driving hundreds of miles to attend. It was a great opportunity to be able to shoot some more awesome footage and to take pictures again. I have so much footage of these bands so let’s make a deal haha...
