Think More Muzik
Self Released
(NoNeedz MySpace)
The latest release from solo MC NoNeedz, Think More Muzik, is a welcome collection of unreleased song and rarities. As with NoNeedz’s previous album, Feel Good Muzik, the musical content is highly influenced by old school funk and a splash of reggae.
NoNeedz has one of the smoothest vocal deliveries being recorded today and I never tire listening to it. How he remains un-snatched from a major label or hip hop recording crew I have no idea. Lucky for us this hasn’t happened or I am sure he would be recording water-downed songs for others - not creating gems for himself. Only an unrestricted artist could bust out the hard hitting Apacolypse Now or the super creative reggae bounce, yet also somber Schoolyard or Devil’s Land, both featuring the sultry guest vocals of Heather Green.
Hardcore NoNeedz fans may be a little disappointed with this release, as more than half the tracks have been previously released on compilations from Sense Boardwear and us The Pier. Most of these tracks are collaborations and serve as strong reminder of how this cat holds his own with the likes of Edley Shine (Born Jamericans), Duddy B (Dirty Heads), Mike Pinto and more.
With rumors NoNeedz is already working on his next full-length, plus new work with his band Close Enough; Think More Muzik is a solid placeholder. Due to its 'compilation' nature it feels a little inconsistent musically, but all the same still satisfying until we are blessed with more brilliance.
