Fayuca
The Assassination
Self Released

Like previous Fayuca album releases, The Assassination is an artwork that needs to be consumed in its entirety to be truly appreciated. This Arizona three-piece has crafted a journey that should be taken from beginning to end, each track melds into the next and the album ebbs and flows through heavy rocking highs and tranquil dub lows.
All three musicians that make-up Fayuca are masters of their respective instruments and in past recordings sometimes it came across as if they were competing for the spotlight or were unintentionally over-complicating things. However, on The Assassination all three are provided with the chance to shine and overall sound like a much more cohesive unit. It must be said it would be especially hard to exercise restrain when you are such a powerhouse drummer like Rafael - the man is an animal behind the kit.
Songs like Salte Demonio capture a sultry suggestiveness that is often missing from the in your face party nature of reggae rock music. I could imagine this song playing in the Titty-Twister strip club From Dusk Till Dawn with Salma really working it. If one had to choose a stand-out track here, it would have to be the amazing Altro Argumento - a song that mixes reggae into punk rock that crossover masters like The Expendables would be super-proud of.
When you are bombarded with tons of new reggae rock music every week it’s always refreshing to hear a take on the genre that stands alone. Fayuca’s The Assassination is truly a killer of an album with an unmistakable identity.
