Bargain Music
Epilogue

Recorded to be released at the final Bargain Music shows earlier this year, Epilogue is an album for the fans. No doubt.
Even though previous Bargain Music albums covered plenty of musical territory there was some undeniable element about them that neatly tied all the musical chaos together. Unfortunately, overall Epilogue lacks any kind of cohesiveness and it does feel like Josh and co have constructed an album of songs that never got the chance to make an album and this was its last ditch effort to get them out there. That being said, I still certainly thank them for getting this out to us, as there is plenty to enjoy.
As always each Bargain song featured here finds its own style and mood. Not Coming Home to U is as sweet and as honest as anything else the band has released previously. I hate to group Bargain Music songs together due to their distinct individuality, but tracks like Family Tree, Epilogue, and County showcase the tremendous balladeer Josh has become. His voice is perfect for these introspective songs.
It’s been a while to have the opportunity hear a ‘full band’ Bargain Music album, so it is particularly satisfying to hear Zippy (guitar) and Matt Brien (bass) filling out songs like Santa Ana and Jenny on this final go around.
You cannot help but listen to Epilogue with bittersweet fondness. The songs are a treat, but not as enjoyable as they could be when knowing that something truly great is gone. Epilogue, is a worthy final addition to the Bargain Music time capsule.
