Aberdeen, Maryland’s own Ballyhoo! has inked a deal with Hawaii based independent record label, Law Records!
Ballyhoo! has joined a stellar line up of groups with Law Records that include Iration, Passafire, The Supervillians, Splinta along with the owners of Law Records and Dub rock music mega-sensation, Pepper.
Their songs have a melody and groove that flow, a real sense of pop quality with street credibility says Pepper’s drummer, Yesod Williams in regards to signing Ballyhoo!. Having Ballyhoo! join the Law Records family is a perfect fit. They are an incredibly talented band with a really catchy style.
On Feb 11th, Ballyhoo! will join new label mates, Iration for a month long tour through the southeast. Following the Tour, Ballyhoo will be heading into the studio to record their first album under Law Records with expectations of a summer release! We’re looking forward to a great album and can’t wait to get started states Yesod.
The Pier: We caught up with Ballyhoo!’s front man Howi Spangler, as he discussed how this deal with Law Records came to fruition:
Howi:I’ve always had random email convos with Yee (Yesod Williams) for the last 4 years. Just bullshitting, really. Then Bret started dropping emails here and there back in 2009. I could see they were watching us work. Then sometime in early 2010, there was a little talk here and there about us maybe doing an album with LAW. We were out doing what we do, just ripping coast to coast. I would say the last 6 months or so was when it became a real thing. We’ve been itching to share the info with fans, but we knew from lots of bad experiences to just wait until the ink was dry. ha ha…We did those couple shows in December 2010 with Pepper and we talked a lot about the new music and all the possibilities. Everyone on both sides are really excited.
The Pier: Howi continues to express the overall feeling of the group with a big thanks to the fans….
Howi: All the guys would agree that we’ve been working a really long time for this and it feels well deserved. Pepper has been one of the leaders in this community and it’s great to get the recognition. We know we have big fresh sound to bring to the label, which already has a killer line up. LAW Records in 2011, son!
We want to thank every single person that came to the shows when we first set out on tour 5 years ago. Every person that let us crash, drink all their beer, sleep on their couch, & use all their hot water.
We will continue to bring fresh, melodic songs for you awesome people to sing on your road trips and house parties. See you on the road. Worldwide Social… CHEERS!
The Pier: Cheers to you & the group, Howi, I think we speak for the whole community when we say Congratulations & Good Luck with the new opportunity! We’ll be waiting patiently for new music!

Who & What is LAW Records?
As a vehicle to promote the release of The LAW’S first and only album; NONE ESCAPE LAW Records was born, circa 1983. Years later it would seem that a record label was not all this band needed, The LAW disbanded shortly before the album saw the break of day due to the same thing most bands fell to at that time; drugs, and shall we say “women”. Today The LAW is better known to most as Roy Williams, father to PEPPER drummer Yesod Williams. Together with fellow band mates Kaleo Wassman and Bret Bollinger; Pepper began their very own record label in 2007, and as an homage to The LAW, named the label “LAW” Records. It is Pepper’s mission to make sure good music never goes unheard.
