Hawaii’s Anuhea is spreading some love to her fans with the release of her latest single “High On Love”. The song has more of a dub feel than previous songs, with influences from all over the world. These include New Zealand, Hawaii, and Vegas.
Best friend Kimie joins Anuhea to sing back up vocals on the track. Also from Hawaii, her style embodies an acoustic soul reggae feel with a hint of R&B. For her, music is a solid part of her life and as been since high school, “No matter where I am in my life, I know I can always turn to music”.
The song’s first inspiration came from some work by one of Anuhea’s friends as Anuhea shares with The Pier, “My friend Ariki from New Zealand showed me this beat he made in his studio, and I loved it. I had a song idea with words ‘High On Love’ for a long time, so I finally just put it together.”
Be sure to catch the message of the lyrics too. I’m sure we’ve all experienced that “up in the clouds”, no-ones-gonna-ruin-my-groove kinda feeling when we’re in love. And that’s exactly the feeling that this song is talking about.
“High On Love” basically means being so in love that you’re just floating– you feel euphoric.”
Compared to her usual folky sound, the new song has more elements of dub, illustrating her versatility. “[The album contains] lots of cool vocal effects I’ve never used before in my music—so it’s really a groundbreaking song for me”.
For the next few months, Anuhea will be traveling through most of the west coast and other areas of the US, touring at festivals and shows. She will be spending time in the studio working on a new album. No solid dates have been set for the release, but she hopes for the album to be out early next year. She promises her fans, “I’ll be releasing stuff in the meantime to keep you guys entertained”
