Chris Castro

I was born and raised in Northern New Jersey, where I spent much of my time playing in punk rock bands, running track, and eating my grandma’s delicious home-made oatmeal chocolate-chip cookies.  In 2007, I moved to Manhattan to pursue a bachelor’s degree in International Studies with a minor in Spanish Language and Literature at Fordham University, although I found myself far more dedicated to music than schoolwork.

In January 2010, I decided to escape the soul-crushing winters of NYC and moved to Central America for the semester, where I studied Latin American political activism and sustainable development. Somewhere in between leftist political rallies in San Salvador and climbing volcanoes in Guatemala, I became immersed in the tropical sounds of Latin America and the Caribbean, and I’ve been a total reggae junkie ever since.  Upon my return to the States, I began working for the absolutely phenomenal folks over at Easy Star Records and am now honored to be a part of The Pier staff, where I hope to share my love of reggae and punk music with all of you.  Shoot me a message to say hello, send me a link to some of your music, or recommend someone else’s.
