A New Single Out from J Boog!

J Boog, the winner of “Best New Entertainer” at the 31st Annual International Reggae and World Music Awards in 2012, recently released a new single titled, “Smoking Bomb Bud”. And, The Pier has all the details!

Hailing from Compton, CA, J Boog became hooked to music at an early age. At the young age of four, he became a musical apprentice to his sister after hearing her play the keyboards. It wasn’t long before he was singing along. He even purchased a Bob Marley song book to learn from, and first performed live at the young age of nine.

Many years later his musical career went viral, especially after the release of his debut album “Hear Me Roar” in 2007. The same year J Boog joined the Wash House Music family, an independent record label based in San Francisco and recently built a top of the line studio in Oahu, Hawaii . Nearing the end of 2012, J Boog has released his newest laid back, in-the-haze work, titled “Smoking Bomb Bud” featuring Fiji.

Taking a glance at J Boog’s past should certainly make one wonder, “how much fun did J Boog have recording this song?” As a man of humility, it isn’t hard to imagine that J Boog has the utmost respect for his musical influences. That’s why recording with one of his musical mentors, George “Fiji” Veikoso, must have been a doozy. In 2005, the two met after one of Fiji’s shows. Since then, J Boog was motivated to relocate to Hawaii to embellish his musical prowess. Just a few years into his career, J Boog and his hero were recording together, including for his newest 2012 single.

While J Boog’s Give Thanks Tour stopped off in Denver, Colorado, The Pier was fortunate enough to sit down for an exclusive interview. J Boog explained the background of the song as a tribute to DJ Quik. “[Smoking Bomb Bud] is actually a remake of an old song by DJ Quik. We were just paying homage to him and give it with a new twist. That was one of my favorite songs growing up. So, we just did a new version of it with all of the high grade qualities, you know?”

As stated, J Boog is in the midst of a nationwide tour, tearing through various cities across the map. Along the way, J Boog will be joined by several indispensable groups such as Oahu’s The Hot Rain Band, Tomorrow’s Bad Seeds, Ashes Of Babylon, and more!
