Firstly, thanks to everyone that entered. The Pier and the judges were overwhelmed with the strong interest from all the bands that entered from all over the world - over 130 entries.
It was a tough job, but The Pier and the guest judges (Thanks - The Expendables, Dirty Heads, Passafire, John Brown's Body, Ballyhoo! and The B Foundation) came up with this digestible list of 30 bands.
For those that missed out this time round, take comfort this will become an annual event and we will be posting an Exposed news feature every Thursday on The Pier. Starting with your bands!
Lastly, support your local Reggae Rock band as there is a s@#tload of awesome groups out there in every region. You may just have to look a little harder for them and The Pier will continue to try and Expose as many of these bands as we have done since day one.
Enjoy this compilation and let's have a great 2010

TRACKLIST
DISC 1
1. Echo Movement - I think God Smokes Weed
Jason Moorehead (The B Foundation) - This song is my favorite of all of them, I like the vocal harmonies, reminds me of Beach Boys a little bit, the lyrics are funny and make much sense. It has an original sound to it. I wanna hear more Echo Movement I hope this song isn't a one hit wonder type.
2. Goodbye Beatdown - Feel Your Pain
Geoff Weers (The Expendables) - Good intro. Starts bluesy then goes to different styles. I wanted to hit replay.
3. Josh Farrow - No Criminal
Raul Bianchi (The Expendables) - I thought his vocal melody really carried this song and makes it stand out. Great melody over the progression he used, and the riff line before the verses is short but really adds a nice flavor to the song. Great voice.
4. 77 Jefferson - Stay
Will Kubley (Passafire) - I think the auto-tune totally works on this song in a Jamaican pop-reggae kind of way. I also like the mixture of the two drum loops going on simultaneously. Very rootsy, chill reggae jam. The instrumentation is simple and effective, and the acoustic guitar sits just right.
5. Subrosa Union - Inside
6. The Knock-out - Fade Away
7. Fayuca - Altro Argumento
Jason Moorehead (The B Foundation) - Love the hard rock riffs, Gabriel's voice sounds good too, when it drops down to reggae part I'm a little let down by the guitar tone and the drums, but all the distortion sounds sick and I like the vocal work. They can rip it up if need be for sure.
8. Fighting Chance - Primal Soul
Raul Bianchi (The Expendables) - I don't know why but I see this being in a commercial or a movie. Very catchy with a cool drumbeat.
9. Nobody Cares - Thrive in the Future
Matt Ochoa (Dirty Heads) - Doug Means always has catchy ass melody lines.
10. Top Shelf - Under Arrest
11. Natives of the New Dawn - Old Shoes
(Natives of the New Dawn MySpace)
12. Adam Almony - Douche Bag
13. Conscious Souls - Live Your Life
14. Tatanka - Numbers
15. Kings and Comrades - Another Way
Tommy Benedetti (John Brown's Body) - Sweet chord progression on this one. It lends itself well to the steppers beat and reverbed out vocals. A killer, dubby atmospheric track and tight two part harmonies.
DISC 2
1. Dodger - The Sleep
Tommy Benedetti (John Brown's Body) - This is a definite standout track and tune. My favorite of the bunch. The harmony vocals are excellent. Very tight, creative arrangement and I dig the production. The bullhorn-esque vocals and percussion set back in the mix really add a cool flavor. With a little editing, this tune could hit the radio. Primo tune.
2. Katastro - That Place You Know
Adam Willis (Passafire) - I like the main riff, and I like the lyrics and vocal melody (although they do remind me a little bit of Eric from Rebelution), but good nonetheless. I also like the fact that this song is mixed well which is a huge deal for me, production can make all the difference.
3. Aaron Kamm and The One Drops - Gnu Gnu
(Aaron Kamm and The One Drops MySpace)
Tommy Benedetti (John Brown's Body) - This guy (I assume its Aaron) has a really nice voice. There is a raw, plaintive quality to it that is cool. I do like the bands track, but i'd also like to burn one down and hear Aaron sing this solo. Nice one. Matt Ochoa (Dirty Heads) - I just really like his voice, very soulful.
4. KnowledgeBorn07 - Dead Willow Blues
5. Pacific Dub - Sundown
6. Seth Davis - How Many Times
Jason Moorehead (The B Foundation) - Sax sounds nice, reminds me of Chapter 11 or just that Long Beach sound from a few years back. Is this guy from Bredrin Daddys? I like the drum bounce and rap flow. The sax is killing, it's got a good hook. This was one of the songs that stood out upon my first listen.
7. Rude City Riot - 25 Years
8. J-san and the Analogue Sons - One Sound
(J-san and the Analogue Sons MySpace)
Will Kubley (Passafire) - It really does have a great analog-quality sound. I really dig the production style on this track, and the horns and the vocal are great. It reminds me of some of the Trojan Records type stuff.
9. SKITN - Late Night Drive
10. Jah Works - Ayo Ayo
Ted Bowne (Passafire) - I love these guys. They were one of the first reggae bands I ever saw live in my hometown Ocean City, MD. They used to have a house band gig once a week at Seacrets where I would go with my mom and watch them jam out! This is a very well produced song. Who doesn't like when the ganja man comes to town?
11. Blue Island Tribe - Down
12. Subliminal Trip - Be Set Free
13. Pasadena - NFS
14. One Pin Short - Revolution
Geoff Weers (The Expendables) - I like it. Nice song. I can hear the singer in The Scorpions. Raul Bianchi (The Expendables) - Really liked the interplay between the guitar and the horn section. Also the singer has a very cool, and unique voice.
15. Dan Sherrill - Unreal
