Video: Katy Perry – Chained To The Rhythm (ft. Skip Marley)

Never thought we would ever publish a Katy Perry related song or video but it appears that the pop-star is taking some dancehall influence with her new music as she taps Skip Marley as a guest feature to her new song “Chained to the Rhythm.” The song still has her pop flair but accented by a reggae cadence and dancehall rhythm. The video was filmed at Six Flags Magic Mountain and if anything, this is a break-out moment for Bob Marley’s grandson, Skip, who provides much needed edge to the track as he graces the song similar to how Lady Saw was featured on No Doubt’s Underneath It All, dishing his verse toward the end of the track. Perry supported the release of Skip’s latest single, “Lion,” on social media, calling the Jamaican singer, “the voice of our REVOLUTION.”

“Chained to the Rhythm” was premiered live on television at the 59th Grammy Awards on CBS. One thing is clear with this song — reggae and it’s dancehall sensibilities appear to be furthering its way into pop music and culture. What’s next? Taylor Swift collaborating with Gentleman? Justin Bieber with Marcia Richards? We love how reggae and its many branches are continuing its momentum of influence. What do you think of the song?

Video Premiere: Jungle Man Sam – “Dive Deep”

Filmed and edited by the Florida-based Sugarshack Sessions crew, Reggae Rise Up artist Jungle Man Sam has just released a new acoustic video for his song “Dive Deep.” The track is a beautifully arranged love song that showcases Sam’s dynamic vocal versatility and strength as a songwriter. When asked for a quote on the song Sam expanded on the theme, sharing:
“Dive Deep is a song about loving someone so much that you want to dive right into every aspect of their being. We all have stories of heartache and pain that we bring along with us, and loving someone means loving that story that they carry. Crossing an ocean for someone is easy, but diving into the depths of who they are means a lot more.”

From Toronto, Canada, Jungle Man Sam (real name Sam Morton) is the first artist to sign to Reggae Rise Up’s new artist management label. “Dive Deep” is his second single with plans for both a studio and acoustic EP to be released later this year. Stay tuned for more information on Sam as we plan to expand our coverage on this up and coming artists. Enjoy the song & video…

Video: Leilani Wolfgramm – “Sinner”

Shot and directed by Meeno Peluce and produced by Jay Tauzin, here is the new music video for Leilani Wolfgramm’s new single, “Sinner.” This is the first single from Wolfgramm’s upcoming album, Bipolar, expected to be released later this year. The video was shot on location in Los Angeles, CA by the LA river. The song is about someone at their lowest point, whether you are religious or not and is described as a heartbreaking song that doesn’t really have a resolve with alcoholism as the theme; “Toast to your dinner, heavy is the crown (Royal).” The song was written on tour when Leilani woke up hungover, blacked-out from the night before and there was a voice memo she left herself on her phone — it was basically her singing the song to herself. Stay tuned as we’ll have more info on her upcoming Bipolar album, but for now, enjoy the song and video…
