Exposed: The Melodramatics

The Melodramatics – Dirty Beach

Right Click the link above & Save Target As

Part of a new crop of fresh Nor Cal dub sounds, Redding-based The Melodramatics mix reggae, rock, dub and ska to bring an upbeat, energetic style all their own. Influenced by bands such as Sublime, The Expendables, Slightly Stoopid, and Reel Big Fish, the band bridges generation gaps and fills dance floors with their dub rock vibe wherever they play.

Making music since 2001, The Melodramatics consists of founding members, Caleb Saccheri (Guitar/Vocals) and Jesse Geron (bass). In 2007, Richard Hughes (Trombone/Keyboard) aka “Dick the Boner” joined the crew adding his brass and keys to fill out the ska vibe. Darryl Brown, aka “DRail” (Drums), is the most recent addition to the band (joining in 2009), laying a solid foundation with his drumming.

The Melodramatics kicked off 2010 with a 4-song EP, “Dirty Beach,” which showcases a polished sound emphasizing their reggae and rock styles more than the band’s previous punk rock leanings. The EP is a preview of what’s to come in the bands next full length self-titled album scheduled for release in mid 2010.

Natives of the New Dawn Announce New Album

Detroit-bred and Pier Exposed band NATIVES OF THE NEW DAWN announce the release of The Show EP digitally through dPulse Recordings/Ovrtone Music Group July 6th, 2010.

Comprised of seven of the thirteen songs Natives wrote and recorded during this period, “The Show” is an honest (and fun!) portrayal of the bands life, struggles, successes, and failures that span the course of the past three years. The soulful, tuba laced “Big Girl” addresses the struggles of maintaining a relationship at home while constantly on tour, trying to make ends meet, and putting the band first. The introspective sing along “Carry Me Home” about Dan, a fictitious man who makes his way across the country to pursue his dreams, sums up the consequences of and reflections on, everything you leave behind in such a pursuit.

In only seven tracks, “The Show” gives listeners a diverse collection of songs, including the lazy summertime jam “No Trouble” featuring the trombone work of John McKnight (Fishbone, Ben Harper), the rock n’ soul party anthem “Gimme That Thing” featuring vocals from new bass player Mic Rob Kershaw, and the inspirational soulful rock ballad “No Way Out.” From start to finish, “The Show” spotlights the band’s unique dynamic, with a solid seven tracks that offer “A Little Bit of Something” for everyone, and reflect a new direction for Natives.

Natives will be on the road this July in support of the release making 21 stops across the midwest & west coast, with additional dates and fall touring plans to be announced soon. For more info on Natives of the New Dawn visit www.nativesband.com.

Summer of Silverback Interview: Fishbone

The first time I interviewed Fishbone, was 14 years ago and even back then the band was already regarded as veterans of the ska-punk scene and one of the key innovators of crossover music. Man, I guess time flies by when you are having fun!

As a band with one of the best live shows in the world and one that has inspired so many of today’s most successful bands in one way or another, it is only fitting a Fishbone documentary titled Everyday Sunshine will try to capture that legacy and premiere at the LA Film Festival this week. Bass legend and cool motherf@#ker Norwood Fisher is here to reflect on his long history with the band and celebrate the ongoing strength of Fishbone.

West Beach Festival 2010 Line-Up Announced

The organizers of the 2010 West Beach Festival in Santa Barbara are painfully slowly revealing the 2010 line-up on its Facebook page. A new band is announced every 20 minutes or so, so far killer bands like The Movement, SOJA, The Beautiful Girls, Passafire, Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad and more.

I am sure they are saving the announcement of the bigger acts for towards the end. We will post the completed initial line-up here tomorrow.

Update: UB40, Katchafire, Easy Star All Stars, Iration, Collie Buddz and Stranger have been also added to the bill. What are your thoughts on the line-up? Probably not as strong as last year, but still not bad.

Authority Zero – Big Bad World

Right Click the link above & Save Target As

This we got an epic reggae rock ballad from AUTHORITY ZERO! You seriously got to download this track!

Mesa, AZ based punk rock royalty AUTHORITY ZERO has managed to weather the storm of the music industry and endure living on the road away from friends and loved ones. For the release of its fourth studio album, ‘Stories of Survival‘, AUTHORITY ZERO used their music as a conduit to convey not only the trials and tribulations the group has endured, but also the current economic difficulties faced across the globe.

Marking the return of original bassist Jeremy Wood, as well as the addition of longtime friend Zach Vogel on guitar, ‘Stories of Survival‘ is also the first release for Viking Funeral, an imprint label founded by Pennywise guitarist Fletcher Dragge, Ken Seaton of Hardline Entertainment and Suburban Noize Records.
